During 2003 and 2004 Earthfall had been mentoring and creating another work for the Polish company, Chorea. Artistic Directors Jessica Cohen and Jim Ennis, with performer Cai Tomos made several trips to Poland and individuals from Chorea also came to rehearse with the Earthfall directors in Wales. This unique international theatre collaboration resulted in After the Birds.
Earthfall and Chorea pursued the collusion between ancient Greek choral song, contemporary music and urban choreography with a highly physicalised choir, live music and film. The performance featured a radical fusion of elements adapted from Aristophanes’ comedy, The Birds, and the result is a fine mix of humour and pathos
The work was staged with the audience on both sides of the performance area and has played to sell-out audiences at major festivals throughout Wales and Poland. After the Birds has been performed every year since its inception, including at the Warsaw International Theatre Festival in December 2008, the La Mama Theatre in New York in Autumn 2010, regularly at the Ludz, RETRO/PER/SPECTIVES festival in Poland, at Moscow’s Meyerhold Centre in Russia 2011 and at the largest theatre festival, Bharat Rang Mahotsav in New Delhi in 2013 (click here for more information)
After the Birds continues to be a part of Earthfall and Theatre Chorea’s on-going partnership.
