Earthfall have continued to collaborate with the over 70’s group in Blackwood, Gwent but this time wrote a film script based on a childhood memory of one of the cast members, Lyn Begley.
Lyn had lost her five-year-old brother, Monty, in an accident at an opencast coalmine on Arral Mountain in Wales in 1924. Too Old to Dream is a ten-minute cinema short featuring a cast of eleven, six of whom were over 75.
The film depicts Lyn’s wish of growing up and always imagining and wanting Monty by her side. Too Old to Dream was scripted by Ennis and Cohen and directed and produced by Paul Ilswyn Thomas with music by John Rea, and was premiered at Chapter Cinema , Cardiff in June 1998.
Earthfall, with Jim Ennis, Jessica Cohen and Paul Ilswyn Thomas were awarded a Bafta, Cymru Wales, in March 1999 for Best Short Film of 1998.
The film went on to be shown at major film festivals in Spain, Ireland, Germany, Poland and England and was broadcast on BBC2 TV in 1999.
